EDI keeps students engaged throughout the lesson! It gives students the opportunity to speak and listen to each other during the lesson. Students discuss vocabulary and read aloud during EDI which gives them practice in Reading, Speaking, Listening, and Writing. Students do all the work during a lesson! Pair-Share is a great strategy to help English Learners with speaking and practicing the vocabulary!
Do your textbooks align to Common Core?
It’s no secret that most Common Core textbooks were not written expressly for Common Core State Standards, but there is a solution. Our curriculum specialists can calibrate each page in your adopted textbook to the Common Core standards, omit assignments that no longer align to the standards, locate any gaps where supplemental content is needed, and completely take the guesswork out of pacing for your teachers!
Fitting it all in
No need to worry about timing! All of the Common Core-aligned content is paced over a 180-day school year. We leave every fifth day on your calendar empty to allow for re-teaching, for catching up on an assignment that took longer than expected, or to give teachers wiggle room in case something unexpected comes up like a fire drill or an assembly that week. DataWORKS can even schedule in your quizzes and assessments.

Making it easier for teachers
If there is any vital content missing from your textbooks, we will find supplemental material for you and link it right to your digital curriculum map. We also label every assignment in your map with the components of Explicit Direct Instruction – so teachers can instantly see if the book is missing a good Learning Objective or Independent Practice activity – and they can add it in!
3Â steps of the Curriculum Map process:
DataWORKS meets with site leaders to discuss the preferred organization of the curriculum map, picks up and reviews the resources to be incorporated into the map, and gives leaders an overview of the process from start to finish.
DataWORKS begins reviewing and analyzing the resources page-by-page to determine alignment to standards and to EDI components (i.e., Learning Objective, Concept Development, etc.). Lessons that align to standards are placed in the map, while lessons that do not align are omitted. For any standards that are not covered by the adopted materials, other resources are located and placed in the map. A secure website is set up for your school, so teachers have access to their calendars 24-hours-a-day from any device with an Internet connection.
A DataWORKS consultant visits your site to present the new Curriculum Maps to your staff. Teachers are asked to bring their laptops or tablets so that they can participate in the interactive training. Training includes: An overview of how the maps were developed; a review of all of the features of the map; and, a review of the components of EDI which are noted in the map.
